Where can you get it?
I have price checked for you and it is currently available at the reduced price of £16 (fuming I paid full price), from The Wine Society.
Try it for yourselfWell, here we are rolling through September and supposedly embracing transitional autumnal weather, clothes and most importantly wine. I don’t know about you, but the mercury hit 20C where I am today, IN THE NORTH… I know! Which obviously means I’m clinging on to the last remnants of summer and in denial of approaching chilling temperatures and woolly hats.
With that in mind, and balancing unseasonal balminess with actual autumn, here is one of my top picks for September.
Yes! it’s a rosé… but not just any flimsy Sud de France strawpedo juice. This one’s got a little bit of guts about it. Not too serious but enough savoury notes and structure to set it aside from the crowd.
The winemaker, Michael J Corbett, from Vanguardist says it’s inspired by the flora and fauna that thrive in this single vineyard site in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale. The grapes are Syrah and Grenache (marital bliss right there if you ask me) and come from old bush vines in the sandy Rende vineyard at 200m elevation.
The grapes are trodden before wild fermentation takes hold in half stainless steel and half concrete eggs. A proper hands-off, let the juice do its thing type of winemaking! I am here for it!! The malolactic conversion gives the wine a roundness and elegance.
A wine you really don’t want to tell too many people about, it has structure, it’s textured and fresh and quite frankly, the rosé swigging elite of the French Riviera don’t quite deserve it .
It’s the wild strawberries, grapefruit and blood orange with fennel undertones that fill your mouth on the first sip. But it’s the grip on the finish that tells you this isn’t for Kylie fans. It’s too damn good. Drink it with company, with food or just plain out of the bottle, I'm glad I bought a case.
